چکیده

Radiographic delineation of the optic canals was first performed by Winckler [1] in 1901 and then by Rhese [2], who outlined the canal in the oblique position. Further refinements were made by Goalwin [3, 4], who examined 1,000 optic canals, and later by Pfeiffer [5], whose x-ray techniques are now commonly used in projecting the optic foramen in the inferolateral quadrant of the orbit. The simultaneous demonstration of both optic canals in their axial plane by complex motion tomography [6, 7] further improved the detection of subtle abnormalities. However, a drawback of this technique is that it requires a skilled technician and a cooperative patient. The hyperextended head position required to obtain the satisfactory angle is often difficult for adult patients. Computed tomography (CT) has now enabled routine detailed visualization of the optic canals without subjecting the patient to any discomfort.

Root Canal Transportation in Canals Joining together: Assessed by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Introduction: Statement of the Problem: Cleaning and shaping are regarded as the most important aspects of root canal therapy and prerequisite for the success of endodontic treatment. Apical transportations can jeopardize the outcome of treatment due to the significant decrease in the sealing ability of root filling material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate transportation in type II c...

Comparison of transportation and centering ability using RECIPROC and iRace: A cone-beam computed tomography study

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Root canal treatment, especially in curved and constricted root canals, can be very difficult and time consuming. Several investigations have compared the reciprocating and full sequence motions in terms of shaping ability. The purpose of the present study was to compare the root canal transportation and centering ability of RECIPROC and iRace using cone-beam computed tomogr...

Evaluation of mandibular premolars root canal morphology by cone beam computed tomography

Introduction: To achieve a successful endodontic treatment, the clinician has to identify the different canal configurations.mandibular premolars have the wide variety of root canal morphology and they are known as the most difficult teeth to treat in endodontics.CBCT  provides a non-invasive 3D confirmatory diagnosis as a complement to conventional radiography. The aim of this study was to...
